Dream Trip: A journey aboard the Nomads of the Seas' Atmosphere (56-2/414-4600; nomadsoftheseas.com), an expedition vessel in upper Patagonia that carries jet boats, a sonar-fitted Panga, and a bright red helicopter, for six glorious days of fishing impossible-to-reach rivers, streams, and lakes, and sailing mornings and evenings above the waterfalls and volcanoes of the Andes. Fly to Pumalin, the land trust created by American Doug Tompkins, to hike a part of the world that is nearly impossible to reach by car. I'd add on several nights in one of the isolated private lodges in the southern reaches of Patagonia.
