Proposals are memorable for every couple, but this pilot definitely aimed for the sky when he popped the question to his flight attendant girlfriend.

On Dec. 23, flight attendant Lauren Gibbs was working a very special flight, namely because she was working alongside her pilot boyfriend, Jon Emerson. While the couple has flown together before, this particular shift was also on their anniversary.

But Gibbs was in for a surprise when Emerson marked this flight with an adorable, and very public, proposal during the pre-flight announcements. While passengers got their normal flight details like altitude and flight time, Emerson also asked Gibbs to marry him.

According to The IndependentEmerson started out by telling the plane: “This is a very special day for Lauren and me. It’s our anniversary today and she’s one of our very best flight attendants.I want this day to be known for the rest of our lives. I want to spend the rest of my life with her.”

Of course, Gibbs accepted the proposal, saying it was the “easiest YES of [her] life” on Facebook. The proposal was filmed by an off-duty pilot.

Gibbs told The Independent: “I was caught so off guard. Jon is a really quiet guy, with a very shy personality so for him to do it in front of passengers was so not like him.”

The wedding itself, according to Gibbs, won’t be quite as public and flashy. “We will probably have something more quiet and smaller for our friends and family,” she said.
