Spanish Market

On the Plaza
Downtown/Plaza
Santa Fe, New Mexico
TEL: (505)982-2226

During the last weekend of July, more than 250 of New Mexico's most accomplished native artisans exhibit their wares at Spanish Market, one of Santa Fe's two major art gatherings (the other is Indian Market, held about a month later in August). The market gives visitors the opportunity to view and purchase many styles of art virtually exclusive to the Rio Grande Valley, from straw appliqué to colcha stitch (colorful embroidery) to santos (carved wooden saints and other devotional figures).

Tip: The organizers of Spanish Market also operate the city's small but exceptional Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, on Museum Hill next to the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture.

Admission: Free (July 26-27 in 2008).
