Buenos Aires

See a Soccer Game

Watching a live game of professional soccer—or, rather, fútbol—is perhaps the fastest way to the Argentine psyche. Getting into a game can also baffle and intimidate. Tour companies like Lucas Markowiecki’s Tangol pick visitors up at their hotel or apartment, give them an in-van lesson on local soccer history and etiquette (no rooting for the opposing team in the local seating area, period), and interpret the signs, chants, and songs that define the palpable emotion that is an Argentine soccer match.

Insider Tip: If you’re in town for one and can afford it, see the superclásico between River Plate and Boca Juniors in the Boca stadium ($150 per person and up). The sports paper Olé posts the schedule on its site (http://www.ole.clarin.com/). Those who want to go without a guide can buy tickets via Ticketek (http://www.ticketek.com.ar/deportes).
