The Red & The Black

1212 H St. N.E.
Washington, DC, United States
TEL: (202) 399-3201

This mini rock club and bar once singularly known as The Red and The Black is now part of the unusual H Street mega-complex, the Red Palace. With a larger stage, double the floor space, and an updated sound and lighting system, the super-sized venue hosts indie rock bands, Vaudeville shows, and carnival sideshows alongside three in-house bars. The Red Palace's décor is New Orleans inspired: Its burlesque-style interior is highlighted by a voodoo-themed patio, resident tabby cat (named "Al"), and a cool "dive-y" feel.

Insider Tip:

The Red Palace hosts an enormous collection of sideshow relics: "Fivey" the five-legged beagle, a turkey-headed chicken, and a tattooed mummy arm, among others.
