This sweeping modern performing arts complex encompasses four separate performance venues, all of them renowned. The Ahmanson Theatre, which seats between 1,600 and 2,000, is one of the nation’s preeminent spaces for major Broadway-style productions like Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables. The round, 750-seat Mark Taper Forum, affiliated with L.A.’s Center Theatre Group, is ideal for smaller, more avant-garde productions. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, once home to the Academy Awards ceremony, is home to the "Dance at the Music Center" series and the Los Angeles Opera—whose general director is the great tenor Plácido Domingo. And the spectacular Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall, with its stainless-steel skin and voluptuous curves, seats 2,265 and is home to the dynamic, world-class Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Tip: Lively Kendall’s Brasserie, located on the ground floor of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, is a satisfying pretheater dining option.
