Chicago

The Magnificent Mile

Chicago, IL, United States

New York has Fifth Avenue; L.A. sports Rodeo Drive; and Chicago boasts the Magnificent Mile. In the late 1940’s, developer Arthur Rubloff designed a commercial boulevard to revitalize the mile-long stretch between the Chicago River and Oak Street. Today, the six-lane strand boasts some of the city’s most historic landmarks, best shops, and finest restaurants. Walk from the Chicago Tribune building (note its façade embedded with stones from eminent structures including the Taj Mahal and The Great Wall of China) and continue north. Check out the Water Tower and John Hancock building, along with the 900 Shops building (Bloomingdale’s, Gucci, etc.) on the corner of Michigan and Oak streets.
