Kecak Dance

Ubud Palace Temple
Jalan Ubud Raya
Ubud, Bali
TEL: 62-361-973-285

Dance on this Hindu island is, in itself, a religion and supplication to the gods. Accordingly, Balinese dances are as varied and intricate as the deities they honor and religious tales they tell. All are spellbinding, but the fiery Kecak dance, accompanied by the percussive chanting of a 50-man chorus, is the World Cup of Balinese dance. Many of the better hotels host pre- and après-dinner dance performances, but more authentic ones are held nightly (and alfresco) at the Ubud Palace Temple. Get ready for plastic seating, beer by the bottle, and great theater.

Tip: Don’t try to follow the story line; it’s hopeless. Just sit back and enjoy.
