Santa Fe

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument

Highway 22, Cochiti
38 miles southwest of Downtown
Santa Fe, NM, United States
TEL: (505)761-8700

A quick drive down Interstate 25 to Cochiti Pueblo leads to this unforgettable natural attraction, a must for photographers. During the course of a two-mile round-trip hike, you'll wiggle through a narrow box canyon not much wider than a Stetson hat, and ascend a jagged path overlooking a cluster of dramatically spired sandstone hoodoos—Kasha-Katuwe's so-called tent rocks. The payoff is a panoramic view of the Sangre de Cristo, Sandia, and Jemez mountains—monumental peaks in every direction.

Tip: The monument is completely without facilities, so pick up plenty of bottled water and snacks before you leave Santa Fe, and hit a restroom on your way to the park.

Admission: $5 per vehicle.
