La Jolla
Horseshoe Beach
Named one of the top 20 beaches in the nation by Travel + Leisure, this isolated section of shoreline is located just south of downtown La Jolla, steps away from a residential area. Accessible only by an unmarked staircase near Coast Boulevard and Prospect Street, the crescent-shaped beach is clean, quiet, and relatively tourist-free. The area is ideal for swimming and sunbathing, and during high tide, daring visitors dive from a rock jetty on the north side of the beach.
Insider Tip:
During your visit, head down the coast to the end of Marine Street, where an extreme shore break called the Whomp draws crowds of serious surfers.
