The Hess Collection

Getting to this mountaintop winery, which lies at the end of several winding, wooded country roads, can be a bumpy ride; by the time you pull up to the ivy-covered, historic stone winery building, you’ll be ready to sit still for a while. Sipping from a few of the collection’s esteemed Cabernet labels should help settle you (if you’re lucky, the tasting choices will include one of the winery’s small-block varietals, like Viognier and Malbec). Afterward, be sure to check out the property’s spectacular art collection (privately compiled by Swiss owner Donald Hess); the two floors of gallery space include works by Francis Bacon, Frank Stella, and Robert Motherwell.
The Hess Collection Visitor's Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for public visits and tastings. For groups of 8 or less, taste four current release wines at $10 per person in the tasting room. If your group is 9 or more, please contact our guest relations and event coordinator.
