A single- or two-person sea kayak paddle around False Creek is a terrific way to spot some of Vancouver’s landmarks—including the still-under-construction athletes’ village for the Winter 2010 Olympic Games. A couple of hours’ paddling allows you to glide under the Granville Bridge, past the iconic mirrored orb of Science World, and along Yaletown’s trendy towers. False Creek’s waters tend to be very calm, and after a brief introductory tutorial most anyone can do it (although guests wishing to go out without a guide must convince staff of their swimming ability, and solo paddlers must have completed a lesson). Kayak rentals are available year-round and include safety equipment; lessons are also offered.

Insider Tip: Experienced paddlers may enjoy the slightly more challenging waters of English Bay, where the likelihood of spotting a harbor seal increases.
