Culture Park
Cozumel's new "culture park" provides an intriguing window into the Mexican Republic. In the screening room of the eye-catching modern building, you can take in a state-of-the-art video that gives an overview of the country, literally, with a bird's-eye aerial tour of areas from the Baja to the Yucatán peninsula. Adjoining galleries borrow from the collections of the newly opened Museum of Popular Art in Mexico City, with dazzling examples of artisanal crafts, from fantastically painted alebrije figures from Oaxaca to glazed earthenware from Michoacán. Outside you'll find architectural replicas of pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern Mexican structures, such as the great Aztec pyramid of Cholula in Puebla (the world's largest); the ornate 18th-century pinkstone cathedral of Zacatecas; and Mexico City's art nouveau Palacio de Bellas Artes.
