The South Shore

Bar at the Cisco Brewers/Triple Eight Distillery/Nantucket Vineyard

5 Bartlett Farm Rd.
Near Cisco Beach, South Shore
Nantucket, Massachusetts
TEL: (508) 325-5929

This cluster of buildings on the way to Cisco Beach is home base to Nantucket’s local spirits producers. Cisco Brewers (which was the U.S.’s first outdoor brewery when it opened in 1995) creates an array of yummy beers, ranging from the summery Whale’s Tale Pale Ale (served in pretty much every bar on the island) to the deep, rich Captain Swain’s Extra Stout. The adjacent Triple Eight Distillery turns out five different vodka varieties, as well as whiskey, rum, and the well-named Gale Force Gin. And Nantucket Vineyard, the oldest of the three operations (it opened in 1981), crafts small-batch Merlot, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Pinot varietals. Each building has its own tasting room, but it’s best to grab an outdoor table in the biergarten-style courtyard; if you bring a group, you can happily spend a sunny afternoon sampling.

Tip: The brewery, distillery, and vineyard close shop at 6 p.m. every evening (which means you’ll have time for a nap before you hit the bars).
