Santa Barbara De Heredia

Café Britt Plantation

Heredia, Central Valley, Costa Rica
TEL: 506-277-1600

Coffee is king in Costa Rica—and of the nearly 150,000 large and small coffee fincas (plantations) that dot the Costa Rican landscape (most in the Central Valley), Café Britt is the best place to learn about it. The property runs 1.5-hour tours with bilingual guides ($30 per person, including lunch) who take you through the farm and explain growing processes and the history of coffee production in Costa Rica. (An optional hour-long tour, which takes in the coffee processing plant, can be added on.) These excursions are a must for coffee aficionados, history buffs, and anyone interested in what makes this country tick.

Insider Tip:

A daily shuttle runs between the plantation and San José; make advance reservations if you want seats on it.
