Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum

800 Cherokee Avenue SE
Grant Park
Atlanta, Georgia, United States
TEL: (404)658-7625
The Victorian neighborhood of Grant Park (just south of Downtown) is home to the world's largest oil painting: the Atlanta Cyclorama, a 19th-century circular mural that depicts the Civil War's Battle of Atlanta. Visitors view the painting from inside; once they've taken a seat, they can watch as a central cylinder rotates, giving a view of the entire painting, which, if unrolled, would measure about 42 feet high by 358 feet long. A collection of Civil War artifacts is also displayed in the Cyclorama building—the most interesting being the Texas, a steam locomotive that was a participant in the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862.

Tip: History buffs should definitely check out the gift shop, which has a treasure trove of good reading.

Closed Mondays.

Admission: $8 adults (13–59); $7 seniors (60 and above); $6 children (6–13); free for children under 6
