With its strikingly modern landscaping and architecture, this property at first looks more like a museum (or perhaps a James Bond film location) than a winery. The grounds are a starkly manicured spread of reflecting pools, fountains, and towering metal-and-glass sculptures by artist Gordon Huether; the visitor center, with its dramatic concrete entrance set directly into a grassy hillside, could be Dr. Evil’s underground lair. Despite all the window dressing, though, Artesa’s real strengths are evident from the first pour in its minimalist tasting room: robust, complex Cabernets, Pinots, and Chardonnays.
