The Loop

The Art Institute of Chicago

111 S. Michigan Ave.
The Loop
Chicago, IL
TEL: (312) 443-3600

With more than 260,000 works of art ranging from ancient Egyptian to contemporary, the Art Institute is home to some of the world’s most celebrated masterpieces. But don’t rush inside without viewing one of its most famous sculptures at the entranceway—the North and South Lions. Designed by Edward Kemeys, the lions have stood guard since 1894; the museum often decorates them for holidays and significant sporting events. Inside, stop at the Impressionist wing, which holds significant paintings including Van Gogh’s The Bedroom and Seurat’s A Sunday on La Grande Jatte-1884.

Tip: On Thursday and Friday summer evenings, admission is free—and so is the live music.

Admission: $12 adults; $7 children, students, and seniors; free for children under 12
