Serving as a tonic to the martini-drinking lounge crowd, the 414 oozes with the vibe of a European dance club. Its two intimate spaces—a richly patterned front lounge and starkly modern main room—each have their own bar and DJ’s spinning an eclectic mix that could be anything from funk to house music, depending on the night. An uninterrupted line of video screens emanate a soft glow and surround the main room with electronic images that undulate to the rhythm of the music, which is sometimes supplemented by a live violinist or saxophonist.
Tip: You can show up anytime after 8 p.m. for a cocktail and the scene, but if it’s dancing you’re after, wait until 11 p.m.
